Rhytidectomy or face lift is the surgical removal of the face wrinkles. It involves the removal of excess facial skin with or without the tightening the underlying tissues, and the redraping of the skin on the patients face and skin. The ultimate aim of this cosmetic surgery is to give the patient a more youthful appearance.
Rhytidectomy is done to tighten the skin of the face and remove large creases and wrinkles that are formed around the nose and mouth. The face and the neck are usually treated at the same time. The longevity of the facelift surgery is influenced by lifestyle choices such as alcohol and tobacco uses, by environmental factors such as sun exposure, or by the hereditary factors. With the healthy lifestyle, the effect of Rhytidectomy may last for as long as 10 years or may even be permanent.
