Glamour : Rhytidectomy

Rhytidectomy or face lift is the surgical removal of the face wrinkles. It involves the removal of excess facial skin with or without the tightening the underlying tissues, and the redraping of the skin on the patients face and skin. The ultimate aim of this cosmetic surgery is to give the patient a more youthful appearance.

Rhytidectomy is done to tighten the skin of the face and remove large creases and wrinkles that are formed around the nose and mouth. The face and the neck are usually treated at the same time. The face-lift is performed through an incision made in such a way that the scarring occurs on the scalp and on the natural lines of the face. For man, the incision is made along the natural beard line and can be camouflaged by the side burns. The face-lift surgery can take two-five hours. Prior to the surgery, local anesthetics and sedatives may be given to relieve the tension.

People undergoing this surgery may require 2- 3 weeks to get fully recovered. During this time, vigorous activity should be fully avoided. Cosmetics can be used only after the sutures are healed. Use of hair tints and hair driers should be restricted for some time. Ear rings should not be worn until sensation returns to the ear lobes.

Rhytidectomy corrects deep wrinkling and sagging of the tissues. However, it should be noted that face lift does not stop the aging process, and the signs of aging may reappear as the time passes. The longevity of the facelift surgery is influenced by lifestyle choices such as alcohol and tobacco uses, by environmental factors such as sun exposure, or by the hereditary factors. With the healthy lifestyle, the effect of Rhytidectomy may last for as long as 10 years or may even be permanent.
